Not Him

I posted this on my poetry blog, blairielouhoopoetry.blogspot.com, but this has more traffic so I thought I'd post it here, too. I'd love your feedback. Enjoy.

Not Him
He’s not the type I can bring home for dinner.
He wouldn’t want to come anyway.
He never tells me I’m pretty, but he makes me feel like I am.
I don’t think he’s ever seen my hair done
And make up has usually settled into the deep, sleep deprived circles under my eyes
By the time he sees me.
He’s never mentioned it ones.
It’s been years since he’s seen me in real clothes
And even longer since he’s seen me in daylight,
Unless you count a hazy, 5am glow as daylight.
He doesn’t like to cuddle, but he’ll hug me tightly
And he’ll hold my hand, but not in public.
Never in public.
Which doesn’t matter since we’re never in public together.
He’s never given me any kind of gift or written me anything.
Meanwhile, I’ve written him countless letters and made him multiple gifts.
I rarely get so much as a “thank you”.
I have to pry and push for compliments and real words.
I’m convinced that if he had it his way, we would never speak.
I like when he talks, though. About anything.
Sometimes, if I’m really quiet, he’ll just talk and talk about real things
And I’ll just sit and listen intently until he realizes what’s happening
And pulls back.
He always pulls back.
Most of the time he pretends I don’t exist.
He’s moodier than most girls I know.
You never know how you’re going to catch him,
But I continuously try.
Why do I try?
He’s nothing I want.
He’s nothing I like.
I don’t know him anymore.
He never knew me.
But I try,
I continuously try,
And I’m done trying.

Review: Falling In Reverse - Alone

When I was a senior in high school, I discovered a band called Escape The Fate. The lead singer was Craig Mabbitt at the time, but Dying Is Her Latest Fashion was the album I was blaring. Ronnie Radke was the vocalist on that album so I did some research and found out that Ronnie went to jail and Craig (former lead singer for blessthefall) took his place. I liked Craig and all. I mean, This War Is Ours wasn't a bad album or anything, but there was just something about Ronnie's voice that I loved so when he was sprung from the big house, he started a new band called Falling In Reverse and I did what any loyal fan would do. I got the album, went to a show (2 hours away), and was really on his side....for a while. Then the whole thing with him and I See Stars happened (which you can read about in my blog archives) and that was it for me. I saw a side of Ronnie I didn't want to see and after that, Falling In Reverse fell off my radar.

Since then, Ronnie's douchbagery has been exposed in more ways than one, but he (somehow) still has fans. So many, in fact, that his band has nearly 1 million likes on facebook, he'll be touring with Hollywood Undead soon, his new album, Fashionably Late comes out in mid June and he'll be on Van's Warped Tour this Summer. I'm not happy about any of this, for obvious reasons, but when I heard FIR had a new video out for their new single, Alone, I had to watch it. I thought I would give them the benefit of the doubt and see if maybe he humbled or got his act together.

                    This is what I saw....

It's. Awful. I feel so bad for FIR fans. If any of you are reading this, it's time to jump ship. Seriously. And Epitaph records, it's time for you to get out, as well. Ronnie is giving you guys a bad name.

Let's break this video down in 12 steps, shall we?

1. It doesn't make any sense.
2. It sounds like bad Hollywood Undead mixed with oldddddd Escape The Fate.
3. Why does he jump out of car doing 10mph and then walk along side it?
4. What is that hair cut?
5. He's all of a sudden completely tatted from head to toe. When did that happen?
6. The chorus has absolutely NOTHING to do with the verses.
7. He has uggs on...
8. How much boasting can one person do in one song?
9. How much knocking of other people can one person do in one song?
10. The comments on the video are disabled. Hmm, wonder why!
11. The video has almost as many dislikes on youtube than it has likes.
12. RONNIE, GO HOME. YOU'RE DRUNK.

As if that wasn't enough for you, since this video has been released Ronnie has fired every member of FIR and plans to replace them so he can still tour. Furthermore, every cent FIR makes from touring goes straight to Ronnie and no other members of the band. Don't believe me? Read about it here

Well, that's all I have to say about this horrid excuse for a song/video/band.

Until next time,
-Blair

Everything Ever

Hi there! How is everyone on this beautiful Wednesday night? It's Wednesday and I'm actually posting? Can you believe it? Speaking of which, things are going to change a little bit around here. Due to the volume of my interviews lately, I'm going to be posting twice a week for a while starting next Monday, April 29th. I'll be posting every Monday and Thursday all through May and most likely June, as well so that's something to look forward to, right? I think so.

Anyway, now that that's out of the way, let's talking about those 3 adorable guys up there. They call themselves Everything Ever (previously Curious Volume) and they're from Staten Island, NY. I met them through the No Such Noise boys (no big surprise there) and thought they would be fun to interview. Well, guess what. They were! Don't you love when things work out that way? Unfortunately, we did the interview at a show so it's a little loud and I sincerely apologize for that. I did what I could to tone it down, but you still really have to pay attention to what we're saying. Hopefully you take the time to do so. If you're looking for fun, upbeat, chaotic, but still tight music, these guys have exactly what you're looking for.

Enjoy! :D

Stealing Home/Eric's Acoustic Side Project

Hello, valuable readers! And how are you on this lovely Wednesday morning? Me? Well, I'm great! Thanks for asking! Terribly sorry about not posting last week. It was due to a series of unfortunate events (technology related, once again), but I'm back this week with 2 interviews for you to make up for last week! A 2-in-1 kind of deal. Can you dig it? I knew that you could.

I caught up with a band called Stealing Home a little while ago and by "a little while ago" I mean about a month and was fortunate enough to sit down with them the night before a great show and interview them. In addition to that interview, their lead singer, Eric, started an acoustic side project not too long ago so I was able to talk to him about that, as well. They're a great and very talented group of guys and I hope this helps them in gaining the recognition they deserve. Be sure to click their name above to listen to their music and get show dates. Go to a show! Chances are I'll be there. :]

Enjoy!

Case Closed [Meet Curtis & Phil]

Hello all! First and foremost, before I say anything about this wonderful band I interviewed, I would like to apologize for not posting anything last week. My macbook charger bit the dust and I was just able to obtain a brand new one yesterday so I've been editing like crazy to try and catch up. It worked for the most part, but I was left with the dilemma of which interview to post this week, Case Closed or Stealing Home. I ended up flipping a coin and, obviously, Case Closed it is! Again, I'm sorry for the delay, but that happens sometimes when your entire project relies on technology.

Anyway, enjoy!

Ampersand

Hello there, loyal followers! And how are you all on this fine, Wednesday evening? I'm sorry this post is so late in the day, but truthfully I didn't think I was going to be able to post at all! My macbook charger bit the dust last weekend so I've been without it all week! D: Fear not, though, for I have found way within my means to deliver you the interview I promised with those hilarious guys up there in that photo. They call themselves Ampersand and you love them already. Trust me. You do. Now this may be a little bit confusing, but the backwards hat fellow you see all the way to the right, Connor, actually isn't in this band. He has his own band, Ridgemont, which I'm sure I'll be interviewing soon (hint, hint!). The reason Connor was there is because they needed a bassist or they would not have been able to play this show so Connor, being the nice and talented person he is, stepped up and filled in and I have to tell you, he didn't miss a beat! Anyway, I basically said all of that to say this: Ampersand is looking for a full time bassist!

They posted this on their Facebook page not long ago:

"Hey everyone. We are currently in need of a permanent bassist. If you or someone you know may be interested in trying out please contact us at ampersandnj@gmail.com with the following:

Name,
phone number,
age,
listing of your gear,
a recorded sample of your playing (if possible)
and a description of your experience as a musician.

We are looking for experienced players who know their way around the instrument with reliable gear and transportation. We are planning to do a lot this year and need someone who will take this as seriously as we do. Schedule flexibility is a must. We are looking to play out as often as possible over weekends and small tours. Must be willing and able to provide an equal share for all band expenses. We look forward to hearing from you.

P.s If you are in the Philly, NJ, DE area and wouldn't mind sharing this status it would be greatly appreciated!"

I know that very talented music lovers read and enjoy my blog so if you play the bass and would like to be the permanent bassist for Ampersand, shoot me an email at blairielouhoo@gmail.com with the above requirements and I'll pass your information along! Or, if you'd like, you can email them directly! It's as easy as that. And believe me when I say that Ampersand is a great group of guys and they deserve a great bass player. Anyone would be lucky to fill that spot. I would imagine that your practices would consist of about 70% laughter and 30% actual practicing. Also, Ampersand just reached 500 likes on Facebook, but they could use a lot more so click here to like them!

Whew! Well, now that that's all over we can get to the REAL reason you're here. The interview. Without further delay, here you are.

Enjoy!
